Taketoshi Ota is from the old Japanese pottery village of Koshiwara and his work uses the traditional tobigana or flying triming tool which chatters when it makes contact with the rotating pot, cutting the nicks in the surface of the clay creating the pattern in the slip applied to the surface.

He also uses a brush made of rice straw to make the brush marks on the plate and other items. His work is gas fired.

Taketoshi creates stunning pots, which are decorative, functional and include tea-ceremony wares.
