SMALL TRADITIONAL JAPANESE STYLED GARDEN SURREY
Scheme prepared for client 2009
The client who had visited Japan and is a collector of bonsai wanted to create adjacent to his new Kitchen a traditional Japanese styled garden.
The garden was ideal in that an original high Yew hedge bound it and in part newly also with new Yew hedging that kept the garden distinctly separated from the rest of the more traditional English styled garden.
The entrance to the garden would have been via a traditional tea garden covered entrance set out side the yew hedge to enhance the experience of entering the garden.
The design allowed for a new cedar decked area outside the kitchen that also was to incorporate a pergola to support a Wisteria.
The garden itself was to be ‘karesansui’ a dry garden with rock features, a water basin and lanterns. It also allowed for shelving to be incorporated displaying the clients bonsai.
The planting was to be minimal utilising trained cloud pruned pines, Japanese azaleas and cloud planting around the rocks to be with trained Escallonia’s, not a native Japanese plant but highly suitable as an alternative to box or Ilex Crenata.
As a substitute to for moss Soleirolia soleirolli (mind your own business) was suggested.
