As you enter the garden underneath the arched gateway a generous platform leads up steps to the main garden path. This could be made of granite slabs or a similar material.

On the right hand side there are 3 large feature rocks set in raked silver grey gravel and some low groundcover planting along the edge of the garden

On the left hand side there is an Acer glade planted with both red and green leafed specimens. A simple scheme of ground cover plants can be set underneath the Acers. A secondary path made from stepping stones meanders thorough the gravel leading you back to the main path

The path leads to the decking area. Here there is room for table and chairs. The area is bounded on the north and west sides by opaque exterior shoji panels in oak with planters in granite filled with bamboo trimmed in the oriental style. These could be lit from behind with great effect

The south side of the decking has a simple bamboo post and rail fence surrounding a shallow reflection pool. From the decking there is a path leading to the steps of the front door. This could overhang the pool slightly to give the effect of a bridge. On the right hand side of this path a granite lantern or water feature could be installed.

This concept design uses some of the key elements found in Japanese gardens creating a simple, stylish and easy to maintain garden
