Handmade to order. Made to measure. Inspired by traditional Japanese farmhouse furniture.
The Japangarden Kominka collection brings together substantial timber dining tables and matching benches, combining traditional forms, natural materials and individual craftsmanship.
Each piece is individually made to order in larch or English oak, with dimensions and details tailored to suit its intended setting. From compact dining tables to an impressive 4.5-metre communal table, the collection is designed for homes, garden rooms and outdoor dining spaces.
Inspired by the straightforward beauty of traditional Japanese farmhouse furniture, the Kominka dining table celebrates natural timber, thoughtful proportions and traditional craftsmanship.
The design features a substantial plank top, robust square legs and carefully considered timber bracing. The construction is deliberately uncomplicated, allowing the grain and warmth of the wood to provide the character rather than relying on elaborate decoration.
Each table is handmade to order by skilled craftsmen. Dimensions, proportions and selected construction details can be adapted to suit the space and the customer's requirements, subject to the maker's agreement.
Available in larch or English oak, each table has its own natural character. A natural Blanchon finish provides a restrained appearance that sits comfortably alongside Japanese garden features, natural stone, bamboo and traditional architectural materials.

Larch offers a warm, expressive grain and a natural appearance well suited to the Kominka design. It is the standard material for the collection.
English oak provides an alternative with a distinctive grain, traditional character and the qualities of a substantial hardwood. The indicative oak prices are approximately 75% above the corresponding larch prices.
The proposed finish is a natural Blanchon treatment, selected according to the timber and intended application. The aim is to preserve the natural appearance of the wood rather than conceal its grain and character.
Handmade and made to measure
Every Kominka piece is individually made to order. Dimensions and selected construction details can be adapted by agreement. Bespoke designs may require a separate quotation. Manufacture can take 2-3 months
Natural timber characteristics
Solid timber naturally varies in grain, knots, colour and texture. Small splits or checks may also develop as the wood responds to changes in temperature and humidity. These characteristics contribute to the individuality of each piece, so the finished item may differ in appearance from photographs and illustrations. With such large pieces of timber they will move and dry in centrally heated houses. Its suggested to acclimatise these pieces gradually as we are not cannot stop natural movement of timber in the home.
Outdoor use and maintenance
For outdoor use, a suitable exterior oil or protective treatment is recommended and should be maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Exposed timber will weather naturally over time, with changes in colour and surface character. Again, timber will move and alter due to variations in temperature and humidity , this is to be expected in solid timber.
Specifications and prices
All dimensions and prices are indicative until the final specification has been agreed. Final costs depend on the timber, dimensions, construction, finish and delivery requirements. A confirmed quotation will be provided before manufacture.
