Drilled Glacial Boulders for water and light

Our concept is to take natural glacial boulders, roughly 400–1000 mm, and introduce carefully positioned drilled features while retaining the character and geological form of the original stone.

1. Spring Stone — a small, restrained drilled opening suggesting the emergence of water.
2. Natural Flow Stone — a bore positioned to create a sense of water passing naturally through the stone.
3. Basin Stone — a deeper, wider bore creating a natural-looking water receptacle.
4. Mountain Spring Set — two or three stones composed together to suggest a mountain spring.
5. Standing Water Stone — a simple depression/bore intended to hold still water.
6. Planting Stone — a drilled cavity for moss, grasses or a restrained planting.
7. Light Stone — a drilled opening used to introduce light as a subtle garden feature.

The important design principle are:

The stone should always remain the dominant element; the drilling should appear purposeful but restrained, rather than manufactured.
