Important:
This visual is an indicative planning aid rather than a final
construction drawing. Traditional Japanese tatami arrangements
depend on the exact proportions and architectural features of
the room, including doors, alcoves, pillars and other details.
Standard Japanese layout provides a
traditional-style starting point for arranging the mats,
with attention to the proportions and relationship between
the individual mats.
Non-standard / practical layout gives greater
priority to making efficient use of the available space and
can introduce smaller tatami sizes where appropriate.
The calculator therefore provides a useful starting point
for discussion. JapanGarden can advise on the final layout
once accurate measurements and the details of the room are
available.
Please note:
This calculator provides an initial indication only and is not
a quotation or final tatami laying plan. Accurate room measurements
and the proposed layout should be confirmed before manufacture.
